BOOKS IN PROGRESS
In addition to already published works, the following are some titles in different stages of preparation for publication:
- Ehrlich, M.A (Ed). Sanhedrin and Semikha Studies: a collection of academic articles concerning the renewal of the Sanhedrin.
- Ehrlich, M.A (Ed). Sanhedrin and Semikha Studies, 16th century: a collection of primary sources concerning the renewal of the Sanhedrin.
- Genesis, Monotheism and Messiah. Prof Ehrlich believes this work, when finished, will be his Magnus Opus and a valuable insight into the understanding of the thinking of the intuitive thinking of the Hebrew prophets. It argues the rational function of monotheistic religion and gives insight into the way the Bible was constructed and the philosophy behind the Hebrew concept of God and its significance to the onward development of human civilization.
- An Introduction to Logistical Messianism. Prof Ehrlich believes this article is important to the revision of terms regarding secularism and religion. He argues for a redefinition of terms based on ‘positivism’ and a rejection of definitions based on the doctrinal detail of one sect or another, which he describes as a misleading veil of disguise, but rather thru the achievements and consequences caused by an adopted idea or doctrine. He continues to argue that messianism is not so much a religious theology, but an intellectual disposition. He asserts that messianism has been an important force of societal change which typifies it more than the details of its doctrine. Through this lens he develops a theory of ‘intellectual successionism’ and argues that science and so called secularists are often more messianic in nature (albeit disguised in secular terminology) than many care to admit and often carry the banner of messianic doctrine more fervently than any religious sect.
- A Theory of God and Rational Spirituality. This article discussed the evolutionary and societal function of God and the reasons that spirituality is so prevalent even in the most secular societies. It posits a redefinition of terms regarding religion and spirituality aligned to their basic functions.
- A Jewish Theology of Christianity. There exists a plethora of Christian debate about Jews and Judaism and its role within the Christian worldview. But there is very little discussion amongst the rabbis or Jewish philosophers about the virtues or function of Christianity, it is all but ignored. This work aims to sketch the role for Christianity within a modern Jewish worldview.
- Towards a Judeo-Christian Alliance. This work offers a strategy for a Judeo – Christian alliance based on a common culture, set of ideas and hope for the future.
- Exploring the Sino-Jewish Exchange. See pages on Chinese Studies.
- Pipe Dreams; A Vision for the Future of Israel. This work outlines a vision for Jewish statehood unhampered by the burdens of geopolitical realities and the psychological nuances that make it virtually impossible. It offers a ‘could be’ vision, a national fantasy that Prof Ehrlich believes that poets of every nation hold close to their breast, and from it, reality invariably filter through.
- Messiah’s Parliament. A historical novel about the diverging paths of three brothers as they respond to the 1492 Jewish expulsion from Spain. Starting in Oxford University’s Bodleum library where a series of manuscripts are found, the novels moves back to 16th century Spain, it traces the lives of the brothers, the first on his adventures as the chief navigator for the great sea voyages of discovery of Columbus and Vasco de Gamma; the other as a conversos and a rising star in the Catholic church hierarchy; the third as he joins a band of exiled and homeless mystics as they travel thru the Mediterranean basin and North Africa and end up in the mystical stronghold of Safed. The novel is a literary investigation of utopian themes combining historical documentation, letters, texts and biographies of historical events together with dramatic fiction.
