Short-term International Programs |
|Overseas Campus Program (OCP)
This program is jointly organized by Shandong University and its overseas sister universities. It offers sutdents from overseas sister universities the opportunity to attend courses provided by their home university. The credit from these courses: Asian Research, Chinese Research and Culture; can be transferred to the home university. Credit courses are usually taught by professors from the home universities, while Shandong University provides lectures related to the credit courses and other relevant academic activities. Program directors teach, test, and assess according to the academic criteria of the home university
The Overseas Campus Program of Shandong University began in 1984 and through 2004 there have been over 400 students who have come to study in it.
|Senior Citizens College
This program provides senior citizens from all over the world a 3-4 week opportunity to get a deeper understanding of Shandong University, Shandong Province, and China. The program includes Chinese courses, Chinese social and cultural activities, optional visits to cultural sites both in and outside Shandong Province, and visits to other countries.
The length of the program is suitable for senior citizens for there is a lot of free time so that they can rest and not feel tired. All activities will be arranged by Shandong University, which will also provide accommodation. This will allow the participants both to feel they are studying abroad and to feel at home. Participants cannot only learn Chinese but can also attend lectures on Chinese society, culture, and customs. In addition, participants will be in contact with young college students, which will give them a better understanding of the life, study, and psychological conditions of the environment of the university. The program is conducted only for group, so it is a perfect opportunity for senior citizens to communicate with each other.
|Short-term Study Tour Program (SSTP)
The short-term study tour program allows overseas students an opportunity to obtain the experience of studying in China during their vacation. No credit is offered but visits and other activities will be arranged according to the student’s field of study. These could include visits to historical and cultural sites in Shandong Province, museums and laboratories at Shandong University, companies that cooperate with Shandong University, or courts, hospitals, churches, or foreign companies in Jinan. Through this program students can travel in China and better understand the applications of their fields of study.
Since 1996, Shandong University has had this cooperative program with Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen Nuremberg and almost 100 students from this university have taken part.
| International Summer School (ISS)
This is a 4-week program for overseas college students, which provides an opportunity to gain a better understanding of Chinese culture and to see some of China’s most beautiful and historical sites. Courses are offered in Chinese language with lectures on Chinese politics, economy, and culture. Credit for this course can be transferred to a student’s home university. In addition, social interaction and visits to historical and cultural sites and to traditional and modern companies in Beijing and Shandong Province are offered. Though this program, students can step into China and not only learn about but also experience Chinese culture. Students can also make friends with participants from all over the world. A visit to the Peking Opera, studying Chinese Kung Fu, and eating delicious Chinese food will make your stay worthwhile.

Home Stay/Friendly Family
Host Family Day Program
This program provides an opportunity for participants of the above programs to join a Chinese family. Among the family members, there is at least one person who is working at Shandong University, and many family members have overseas experience and have acquired at least one foreign language. Warm-hearted and hospitable, they will invite participants to their families for one day, shopping with them, teaching them how to make dumplings or other characteristic Chinese food, and they will also invite participants to join some social activities with Chinese characteristics, such as a family party or a traditional Chinese wedding, etc., so that participants have more opportunities to get to know the local folks and customs, and get acquainted with more Chinese people.
|Field Study
We provide field trips to historical and cultural sites in Shandong Province, e.g. Baotu Spring, Daming Lake, Qufu, Taishan etc., most of which are the best places of interests in China. Trips to these places are definitely worthwhile. Excursions to the following areas can easily be arranged during the week or on weekends or holidays.
Qufu, Confucius’ Hometown: Sites include Confucius’ birthplace, temple, mansions and cemetery.
Taishan, or Mount Tai, is the most important of the five Sacred Mountains in China.
Huanghe, or the Yellow River is the Mother River of the Chinese People.
Baotu Spring is the largest and best known of many natural springs in Shandong Province.
Qingdao is a beautiful coastal city and the most industrialized city in Shandong Province.
Possible trips: to other places of historical interest and scenic beauty in China after the program.
Also, we can arrange visits to some famous Chinese companies, e.g. Qingdao Beer Company, Siemens Transformer Company, or Linuo Paradigma Co. & Ltd., etc.
In order to cater our programs to your taste as well as possible, adaptation could be arranged according to demand.

| Accommodations
Foreign students in Shandong University are housed in the University Hotel or a dormitory building for International Students, which holds as well a cafeteria, a small indoor gym, outdoor basketball and tennis courts, and a small convenience store. Dormitory rooms are available in varying sizes and levels of comfort. They are all furnished with a private bathroom, air conditioner or fan, and color TV.
|Meals:
Chinese food will be served in the student cafeteria, at student prices. Also, there are restaurants nearby or downtown serving a variety of traditional Chinese food, as well as western restaurants or bars.

Located in the warm temperate continental monsoon climate zone with distinct seasons; dry without rain in spring, hot and rainy in summer, crisp in autumn and dry and cold in winter.

Each room has international access (open 24 hours), for students’ use. Also, there are PC labs available free of charge for participants of our international programs.

Our university hospital provides medical care for students and participants of the International Programs as well, though of course we hope you will not need to consult a doctor at all while you stay here, but if you do, please ask the staff of the International Office or your friends to take you to the appropriate place for help.
