Course name:  Modern Hebrew Language

Year:      2006

Semester one:      5th September – 31st December

Semester two: 15th February – 15th of June.

Date/ Time:      Monday mornings: 10am – 12pm, Thursday afternoon from 4.00pm-6pm and Monday evenings from 7.00pm-9.00pm (on line course in the computer room).

Online course: Every Monday, 7-9pm in the computer room.

Duration:      Six hours/ week

 

Suitability

Students:             Post graduate and under graduate students

Language of Tuition:  English and Hebrew

Prerequisites:               Good English comprehension, willingness to work hard to achieve competency.

 

Goals of Course

The purpose of this course is:

  1. Gaining fluency in reading, speaking and comprehending the Hebrew language.
  2. Learning a new language and grammatical structure.
  3. Developing a broader understanding of the entirety of Hebrew and Jewish thinking as transferred thru language.
  4. Becoming familiar with some modern Hebrew literature.
  5. Familiarity with On Line Hebrew Program
  6. Training of students who may wish to teach Hebrew.

 

Obligations for Course

 

Weekly practice of Hebrew reading and grammar

Ownership of books on reading list

Submission of homework and online work and/ or participation in project each semester

Grade criteria:

  1. Attendance in class
  2. Active participation in class discussion
  3. Submission of homework
  4. Demonstration of knowledge of Hebrew reading, speaking and translation
  5. Pass test and/or essay and/or project
