Judaica Library at Shandong University’s Centre for Judaic Studies
Plan for Judaica Collection

Over the next few years our aim is to build the largest Judaica collection in China and possibly the whole of Asia. We are interested in collecting from private donors, publishing houses, Jewish institutions, synagogues and libraries abroad to achieve this goal.

We are interested in any types of Judaica, from primary texts and liturgical works, Bibles, Talmud, Commentaries, Siddurim, Machzorim, to secondary literature of the broadest sorts in Hebrew and English. Two years ago we didn’t have a Hebrew Bible, our collection has grown, but we are missing even the most basic books. We are also interested in developing our manuscript collection particularly relating to the Judeo –Asian experience.

The Centre for Judaic and Inter Religious Studies has been earmarked by the Chinese government to provide scholars, scholarship, research, books and translations to the Chinese scholarly public. Our library can only grow larger and develop new services such as a loaning service, a scanning of our collections, microfilm services, journals, magazines and newspapers on Jewish related topics, email and web services and so on.

We would be glad for your help and partnership in developing this endeavour.

We are able to pay for postage of books from foreign countries. We will be glad to recognise your contributions by a stamp in the book, or in the case of a gift of many books or the endowment of entire libraries, by naming a shelf or room or collection in honour of the donor. When you come to visit us in China, we would be glad to host you and show you around the Centre.
