| Most recent appointment to the School of Philosophy and Sociology and to the Centre for Judaic and Inter-Religious Studies at Shandong University is Professor M. Avrum Ehrlich. Elected by the senate of the university in 2004 as a full professor, he became only the second person in China to receive a senior appointment within the ranks of Chinese academia and an important factor in the strategy to develop the Centre for Judaic and Inter Religious Studies as a leader in its field within China.
Since his appointment he was elected by the academic committee of the university to a senior academic role permitting him to supervise Ph.D. students at the School of Philosophy and Sociology. In 2005 he was awarded the honorary Shandong Government Friendship Award and nominated one of the top ten professors at Shandong University.
